Hi, friend.
I’m Bri Campos (she/her), LPC, Body Image Coach & Educator.
I’m so glad you’re here.
This is Baby Bri, in all her 90’s glory – rockin’ her high side pony & Barney outfit.
From an early age (probably a little older than when this photo was taken) I understood that I not only was I living in a larger body but that this was a bad thing. When my body cues were questioned by others, I started to distrust my body.
My body became something I needed to fix and to no avail.
My entire life, my weight was my achilles heel – an albatross around my neck.
[P.S. I was an English major in College if you couldn’t tell]
I felt like I was in a fat suit; I fully expected that feeling of being “stuck” in my body would end the day I finally lost “the weight”. Welp, that day never came.
But that day never came.
I hit my dieting rock bottom several years later. Through lots of therapy, crying, and cognitive dissonance, I began to realized that the size of my body represented a narrative that I had been trapped in my whole life.
I believed the lie that the size of my body was the thing keeping me from living a full life.
But what I discovered was that it was not my body, but my beliefs about my body that were keeping me from living a full life.
When I realized that my body wasn’t the thing that needed to change but instead the way I spoke to myself that needed to change, I recognized how much unlearning I had to do.
And with that unlearning came with loss.
I want you to know, I hear you. I see you. You’re not alone.
I’m so glad you’re here friend. Let’s heal together.
